 One Continent?
Was there only one huge continent in Scondera in the Before? They knew that the world was a sphere, so if you set off from the Warlands and sailed the ocean blue, would you end up Penury (or someplace along the East coast)?
Or were there more continents or larger islands in the Before that these people didn't know about?

 Re: One Continent?
There were/are other continents that have yet to be discovered by Sconderans. The rovers came from one, for instance. We left the other continents ambiguous for GMs to interject their own exotic races/creatures -- same goes for what lies south of the Saikin Wastes -- and for future source books Anything could wash up on the shores of Scondera after the Night of Fire, for instance. If you set sail from the Warlands, you'd likely be eaten by a Brotula before you got too far, but it is possible to discover something completely new. One of the community leaders in Survivors is betting whatever else is out there has to be better than Scondera in the After and is planning on setting sail once he has enough supplies.

 Re: One Continent?
Very interesting. I'm kind of thinking along the same lines as that Captain. ...although that sounds like a horde more work than I'm after.

 Re: One Continent?
I don't know if it made it into the book, but I recall discussions about Keshek Kel being a destination port for those from an unnamed western continent. Merchants from these distant lands would have been tight lipped about their lands and the sailing lanes, wanting to protect their monopoly and keep it free from the warlanders (and the Empire).
It was in Keshk Kel that many drugs, herbs and spices from distant continents would funnel into the Warland and eventually to Cynosure (and then to the Empire). These, combined with similar trade from the Saiken Wastes and beyond were one of the reasons Cynosure was so popular as a trading hub - a central point for foreign/exotic goods.

 Re: One Continent?
Very interesting. ...now I kind of want to play an other worlder. Assuming that the Night of Fire was global, and didn't just affect Scondera.

 Re: One Continent?
Who knows? Maybe the cause for the Night of Fire originated in those distant lands.

 Re: One Continent?
Perhaps, indeed.
I need a name. *sigh*
I'm wanting to create my gaming boards and all the associated things I need, but I can't think of a name.
Desolation: blah blah
I thought maybe, New Dawn. ...but that seems far too optimistic.
Quest for Dawn ...that sounds like a soap opera.
And I don't even know where I read the word Dawn, that it got stuck into my head. ...I think it was in a calendar thread. blech. I hate coming up with titles!

 Re: One Continent?
Make it short, abrupt, and blunt.
Desolation: After
It makes the reader ask: After what?
The answer comes back: Everything. After the Night of Fire. After the Apocalypse. After the loss of all that was once a part of your life.

 Re: One Continent?
I like that. ...but I decided to go with something fancy. Matt suggested using Vernal... and after defining it for me, I decided on Vernal Steps. If you'd have been 10 minutes faster, it would have likely been Desolation: After.

 Re: One Continent?
Here's a little know fact... for a short time the working title of Desolation was actually "Afterwards" or "Afterward".
We obviously thought that Desolation was a better title... in fact, Afterward now makes me kinda cringe.

 Re: One Continent?
Vernal, eh? *googles* Huh. Interesting. It certainly makes me curious as to what you'll be concocting. No worries. Maybe I'll pitch the title to Imajica for his game. Or maybe I'll save it for my game...

 Re: One Continent?
*big grin* I look forward to it! It would be something else if there ended up being more Desolation games than Hero games on the site.

 Re: One Continent?
I'll take "After" unless I can think of something better.
Desolation: After does have a certain ring to it.
Working on the diary for the Captain of the City Watch as a bridging piece between the Night of Fire and the campaign start. Hopefully I'll start posting the first of his diary entries shortly.
I think this is the impetus I need to get filesandrecords.com properly up and running.

 Re: One Continent?
Any ideas for city names in the lands south of the Saikin wastes?
I've got a group wanting to go there and I just couldn't say no. I'm actually making up a map and some history of the area too (gotta love Campaign Cartographer 3 and Dawn of Worlds, especially in conjunction) but I just did the land portion so far and I need some city names.

 Re: One Continent?
Well, in my version of Scondera the lands south of the Saikin Wastes are comparable to some kind of mystical Arabia but their civilization fell hundreds of years before the Night of Fire. What do you have planned for that area? What kind of culture have you thought of? That's important to know if you'd like to find proper names.
