Hullo, Matt, Very nice spell, and i definitely like the idea of this type of thread. Will have to dig out a couple of spells I've had players use from time to time, and do them up nicely in this format, and post them up here. Looking forward to seeing what the master of the magic system throws out next...

Glad you like it... I am going to try and keep up with this and do 5 a week, perhaps with a weekly theme.
I think this week is sorcery.

Hullo, Matt, Five a week, huh? That would be neat. And I rather like the theme for the week. Sorcery is a good idea, as the magic of Sorcery seems to be the least defined one of the lot, in terms of what it can do. At least to me.

I need to expand the information available on the HEXipedia for Desolation. Any objections if I take these spells and post them up there?
Ditto any creatures and other stuff people have got?

You're welcome to copy over the couple of characters I put up, if you need my permission.

Feel free to take the spells... week 2 was less productive than week 1...
Sorry for that...
But on the bright side, I got my laptop back from the shop so I should be more productive.

Woot! Lurves us a more productive Matt, we do. I'm really enjoying these spells, particularly the section at the bottom that gives me ideas on what extra successes can do. That is a huge help to me as I try and wrap my mind about this free form magic system.

If you want a whole load more ideas of what a truly free-form magic system can do, check this one out: http://e23.sjgames.com/item.html?id=AG0204Ars Magica 4th Edition. For free. This one's the magic system that every game should use. Present company excepted! Ars Magica gives you a whole load more examples and their supplements are wonderful to mine for more sample spells... I ported this to my AD&D game and once the kids have wrapped their heads around Castles & Crusades, it's going in there as well. Unless I just switch over to Desolation and finally get Elemental Evil converted.

Huh. I remember downloading Ars Magica eons ago at the recommendation of a friend but never had the chance to browse through it. You may just have given me the necessary incentive...

Re: A Spell a Day (or so) - Day 1: Glow
The magic system for Ars Magica is truly a thing of beauty. The whole setting is fantastic, the troup play so each player will have a role no matter the social situation, the wonderful game world they've woven. It's superb. Five years down the line I hope people hold Desolation in the same regard. Ten years down the line, when Desolation's into it's third or fourth edition...
