Post Unofficial Gen Con Games
Hullo, folks,

Since Gen Con Indy is almost upon us, I thought I would post this.

For those who are interested, I am going to run an unofficial game of DESOLATION, as well as HEX, for folks of both the DESOLATION and HEX forums at the convention. 4+ players works best for each. Obviously during the evening. Time and place...well, these are negotiable, as I've not been to the current incarnation of Gen Con.

Thoughts are welcome on the subject.

Very cool! Matt may have more information on open gaming tables, but I think they are fairly easy to find and get, right?

If I'm able to swing by and take part, I'd love to - but I have a feeling I'm going to be burned out by about 4pm each day. I hope not, since a few of the games I'll be running are after that time...

Hopefully my frazzled style will add to the apocalyptic mood of the game :)

In all honesty, Steve, I don't know...haven't been to a Gen Con in over 30 years. :) While I suspect there are open gaming tables and the like, I was planning to do this during the evening, so have no idea how this works. Hopefully, someone else can give me an idea of how to handle this.

While this is certainly true, I like to think that you would be able to *play* in the game, rather than run it. :) But I understand your sentiments. I'm running a HEX game Friday from 4-8 pm, and one of the "Price of Admission" scenarios from 6-8 pm on Saturday, so hope I'm not burned out (no pun intended) myself.

I'm thinking of running the games I plan to run maybe Wednesday and Thursday night, if possible.

Yes, yes, I suspect it might. :)

In the past, I have had mixed success at running pick-up games.

Some of it has do with how dilligent a floor judge is in his duties. The official con stance has been that gaming rooms are for registered games - I assume so they can make some moola on those game tickets. *shrug*

But some judges don't care and figure that if a table is empty and people want to play a game - more power to them.

There seems to be a plethora of tables at one of the connected hotels that people can game at - but those are quickly snatched up.

Matt

Hullo, Matt,

Thanks for all the comments and advice, mate. Much appreciated. :)

Like I said, the HEX game that I plan to run Wedneday night and the DESOLATION game that I now plan to run Thursday night are just for folks from the two forums. They're not really pick-up games per se, althouigh I see your point about them.

I'm going to run the DESOLATION game for folks from the two forums on Saturday night for sure, probably around 9:00 pm or 10:00 pm. Venue is still unsure, but if anyone wants to play, please get in touch with me here in PM.

Btw, Matt, hopefully I'll be meeting and seeing you GMD guys and folks some time on Wednesday, hopefully. :)
