Is the world's surface completely destroyed or are there patches with lesser amounts of damage?

I thought about this in a game idea of mine, where a fantasy world had survived a meteor strike, the most precious and bountiful lands would become the dwarven strongholds and Underlands.

An entire race lives under the surface with room to grow food, it has natural defenses, and precious minerals.

It was always a question of how long til the survivors on the surface realized how good the dwarves have it in their underground kingdoms.

It's safe to say no one will be envying the dwarves here.

Sorry, terribly cryptic hint, I know.

hehe That's for sure. I gotta say that I really think the dwarves are screwed in a lot of ways. :)

That said, I do see some potential for underground survivors of the Night of Fire in a few places, and this could make for an inteesting scenario or two.

Oh yeah, pockets will have survived, but they'll be suffering big time.

To the point, say, where travellers would take a long and dangerous trip over a snow-clad mountain before even considering taking a 'short-cut' through a Dwarven city? :P

Nice one :)

Given that many of the snow-covered peaks either exploded or collapsed in upon themselves, the travel options may either have gotten better (well, the mountains are basically a shattered plain of giant boulders, so at least that's easier to get through) or much worse (now there's a hole in the ground five miles across where these peaks used to be). It all depends on the GM and where the characters are.

Getting down into the old Dwarven cities will still be pretty difficult, but that means getting out of them is tough too - which is actually quite a good thing for the surface survivors as we'll see.
