Post subject:  Disrupting Spells

Runeslinger and I have just been having an at once lively and (I'm sure for him) highly frustrating chat session going over the "Disrupt Spell" rules. After much patient explanation on his part, I have come to understand that this is the way a Disrupt Spell spell works:

Situation 1: GM and two players in opposition
Dave the Sorcerer meets Odrinak the Whiner and the two begin to battle. Odrinak unleashes his patented Energy Bolt at Dave with a Final Difficulty of 4 (for Range and Area of Effect). Odrinak’s Player rolls to see if he is successful. He rolls 8 dice and gets 5 successes (Before: no Burn / After: 3 Burn). Dave the Sorcerer wants to Disrupt that spell before it is unleashed. Dave’s Player and the GM must make a contested roll: The GM has dice equal to the Final Difficulty of Odrinak’s spell (4), and Dave’s Player invests 7 dice to the Disrupt attempt. The GM rolls 2 successes and Dave’s Player rolls 3 successes (Before: 1 Burn / After 4 Burn), therefore effectively Disrupting Odrinak’s spell.

Situation 2: GM NPC and Player in opposition
Odrinak is casting the same spell: Energy Bolt (Fin Diff 4). The GM has some options that include:
    1. Look at the NPC’s magic pool (say it is 8 also) and Take the Average (4) versus the Final Difficulty of Odrinak’s spell (4) and say the attempt does not work. [NOTE: if Dave the Sorcerer NPC has a magic pool higher than 8 then the GM can just say that “Dave Disrupts your spell; think of something else.” and be done with it.]
    2. Roll the GM dice and roll Dave the Sorcerer NPC’s Disrupt Spell dice (for dramatic effect) and see what happens as in Situation 1.
    3. Roll only Dave the Sorcerer NPC’s Disrupt dice and if he gets more than 4, say the spell is Disrupted otherwise not.

Does this jive with other GMs and players here? I am not doubting Runeslinger's understanding of the rules in any way. I just want confirmation and to show you all how good a teacher of rules he can be.

I need to dig up the book and bring myself back up-to-date with the magic system.

So many systems, too little memory space. ;)

These days it is starting to feel like swapping SD cards.... while the synaptic seepage slowly kills me.
