Post What differences will we be seeing between Desolation &
I was curious what rule tweaks and changes will we be seeing between the two games?

Obviously you're using the same system, but how much have you made your own or recreated or just flat out changed to make the end product of Desolation everything you wanted it to be?

First off, apologies for not replying to this. I think each of us thought the other would be replying, and so no one replied. But it's a good question.

Anyone who has played HEX will be able to pick up Desolation and begin rolling dice in short order. We didn't make drastic changes to the core rules. We did add new and different rules for Magic. That's the biggest change you'll see. Casting a spell can hurt the caster, which led to introducing Burn damage to the Lethal and Nonlethal damage types already in Ubiquity. The Magic system also includes a special set of Magic skills, which have Talent or other Skill prerequisites.

In addition to new Talents, Flaws and Skills, we've also added rules for creating your own creatures (mundane, Broken and Weave-Touched). Creatures in Desolation also have nutritional values (how long the creature can sustain your characters).

We've added some new weapons, and shields now allow the defender to use his Full Defense rating against two attackers per round before the multiple attacker penalty kicks in.

We also introduced physiological traits that grant certain Talents and Flaws to the various races.

I think that sums up all the rule changes.
